BBC Radio interview 2nd May 2017: The Bank of Mum and Dad is to lend £6.5bn in 2017, but at what risk? Paul Taylor is interviewed by Malcolm Boyden on BBC Radio about the continued growth in lending by the “Bank of Mum and Dad”, which is now on par with the UK’s 9th biggest mortgage lender. With lending forecast to increase from £5bn in 2016 to £6.5bn in 2017 this has made national headlines. Paul discusses why this situation has come about, whether the trend will continue, and highlights some of the risks that are involved for parents choosing to lend money. What impact will it have on people’s ability to fund their own retirement and later life care, and for those “borrowing to lend” what affect might future interest rate rises have? He also touches on the pitfalls of equity release, plus a potential solution to the issue that would be deeply unpopular but perhaps necessary, and maybe even inevitable.
Available until 31/5/17, the interview starts 1 hour 36 minutes into the show, and lasts for 5 minutes. Click here to listen: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04zr133
BBC Radio interview 4th April 2017: Planning on retiring to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel? Or do we need to change our thinking (and maybe the presenter’s adviser!)? How do you picture your retirement, or perhaps you haven’t given it much thought? Paul Taylor is interviewed by Elliot Webb & Toni McDonald on BBC Radio following a recent survey showing that nearly half of people over 55 haven’t planned for their retirement. They discuss the merits of planning, plus the benefits of a pension as it turns out that Elliot might need to change his financial adviser! Paul guides them through what’s driving the changes we’re seeing, with people working longer and the state pension age being put back, and highlights the misconceptions that many people have about investing. What do you think has increased more in the last decade – the stock market or property* ? “Listen again” and you might be surprised!
Available until 2/5/17, the interview starts 2 hours 41 minutes into the show, and lasts for 5 minutes. Click here to listen: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04xk0t4
